why did I pick architecture?
I picked architecture because I have always found buildings to look really nice. I mainly mean skyscrapers. Its the way that they stand tall above everything else and a lot of them look really cool. Here are some examples.
Ideas
My idea is to go to the middle of London and take photos of all of the buildings and architecture. I might go across the cable cars and take some photos of the 02. I have an idea to go there at night because at night the buildings are more lit and in my opinion look better. Or I might go there just as the sun is setting so I can see some buildings when the sky is that nice orange colour.

Image analysis
This is my favourite photo that he has made.
I like this photo because all of the lights are on in the building and it gives it a nice effect because it stands out From all the other buildings around it. I also like the way that the bottom of the building is really bright and the top of the building is pitch black. whats also nice is that the building stands taller than all the others. It brings all focus to the the building because it is the tallest the brightest and the thing that is first seen when you look at the photo.
The background is nice as well because all of the buildings are the same colour and it makes the main building pop out. Also I like the way that the buildings make the background look interesting instead of just a bland boring back ground. But a weird thing about this photo is the there aren't any people by the buildings or on the pavement. You can see parked cars by the buildings but you don't see any people. Also there are no cars on the road driving around which is weird considering it looks like the photo was taken the middle of a city.

Image analysis assessment
This photograph was taken by Lucien Herve in 1942-1954. Personally I really like this photograph because of the way that Herve took it he took it so that a large portion of the photograph is pitch black. it makes it so you are more focused on the people in the photo rather than the surroundings. another reason I like it is that the buildings and architecture look really nice. its the way there is a wall with bunch of pictures on it and when you look at the mirror to the left of the girl at the bottom you can see a bridge that the figure of the girl is walking on. I like it because all of it connects in some way. The architecture is really weird as well. You don't really see buildings that look like that. I think the architect wanted to make the building abstract. it sounds weird but think about it. why would he or she lay the building out like that If they just wanted it to be a normal building where you go and do work. I think the architect made it to look different and abstract. I think they made it for people to look at instead of something to work in.
Architecture Photoshoot 1
Bas Jan Ader
This is my favourite image that he has made. I like it because he is neither on the road or of the road. He is somewhere in the middle. I also like it because of the way that he falls. when he falls he chooses to let go of the handle bars of the bike. And the second he does that he loses complete control of every thing that is happening. Gravity takes control and he is plunged into the river. I think he made this because it reminds him of when the nazis came and took him and his family. He had no control of the situation. The nazis are like the gravity in this photo. It is completely taking control of everything. It also could be about sudden change. From having a stable home with a happy family to being taken by people who want to hurt them. In one day he lost everything. In an instant you can lose so much so the second that he lets go of the bike handles or he branch of a tree it reminds him of losing everything that he had.
Bas Jan Ader mindmap
This paragraph about my Bas Jan Ader mind map explains some facts about him and his work. It also has some facts about his life and what went through as a child. |
This is a mind map I made about Bas Jan Ader. It tells you that Ader "died" at sea. But since no body was found we can't really tell. We just assume he is dead because he hasn't been seen since he set off on a sailing trip in 1975. Some other facts are that his father was executed by Nazis, He and his family was taken by the Nazis because they were hiding jews and protecting them. He filmed himself falling off things like trees, his roof and falling off his bike into a river because his work is a lot about rituals. Jumping and falling of of things over and over eventually becomes a ritual.

Diptychs and Triptychs
This triptych is made up of three photos of my final piece for abstraction. I think this works because it is symmetrical. as you can see the left image has the peace facing to the right, the middle photo of the peace has the peace facing right at you and the right photo of the peace has the peace is facing to the left so it looks symmetrical. obviously you can see that its not symmetrical but its symmetrical in the sense that the angles that I took the left and right photos at are all opposite to each other.
This diptych is made up of two images of buildings under construction. I think this works because the first photo is a wide shot of all the buildings and the second photo is a closeup shot of just one of the buildings. And it looks good because if you look at the zoomed in photo you can see all the small details on the buildings but in the wide shot you can't see those details. so its almost like looking at two different buildings.
Quote about architecture
Whatever good things we build end up building us
-Jim Rohn
Personally i really like this quote because it has a good message behind it. Its basically saying what ever you create can make you a better person. The the way i think links to architecture is that you build a building and once it is done you have made a home for some one or maybe even several people. And after that experiences of making the building you may have grown as a person and could even be better. It goes for a lot of other things as well. like if you have a child or get a pet if you build these things up well they may end up building you up to and you may evolve as a person.

300 word essay.
This is my favourite photograph from Mohammed Reza Domiri Ganji. It is called “pink mosque” unfortunately I couldn’t find a date for when it was made. In this photograph I see a lot of different colours that look really nice together. There are also a bunch of shapes in this photo. There are rectangles, diamonds, ovals and cylinders. Also it ties into my theme of architecture because it was taken in a mosque. This photograph is very symmetrical. All of the carpets, support beams and the light coming from the windows are all symmetrical. Each carpet is symmetrical witch makes the photo look different from a lot of his other photos. I also like the way he took the photo from the ceiling instead of taking it from a normal angle like from a standing or crouching position. It looking face down makes the photo look interesting and different from a lot of other photos taken at this mosque. Most photos are taken from the corner or centre of the room but since this one is taken from the ceiling it stands out from the rest. The stained glass window makes the light from outside look different colours and since the glass is symmetrical it makes the light from outside symmetrical as well. The light makes the photo look really symmetrical because the patterns are the same on each side. The support beams are all placed in a symmetrical pattern witch makes the photo look even moor symmetrical. Another thing I like about the photo is the fact that the photographer has done such a good job of capturing all of the light and symmetry of the mosque without forcing it or really trying to capture the moment. He made the photo look natural and made it look like it is just a daily thing that happens at this mosque.
